2,3,5,6-Tetramethylpyrazine has been isolated from Ephedra sinica. It is useful in the treatment of several disorders such as asthma, heart failure, rhinitis and urinary incontinence. It is a flavor ingredient of tobacco. It forms cocrystal with 4-hydroxybenzoic acid which exhibits supramolecular synthon polymorphism.
Ligustrazine is a bioactive component extracted from Ligusticum chuanxiong, a widely used traditional Chinese medicine. It can inhibit platelet aggregation, enhance vasodilation, increase cerebral blood flow and has neuroprotective effect. Ligustrazine injection has been widely used in the treatment of ischemic Chemicalbook wind, coronary heart disease, diabetic nephropathy and osteoarthritis of the knee in China. Ligustrazine has also been evaluated as a clinical treatment for pressure sores, as a salvage agent for patients with non-Hodgkin's lymphoma, and as a treatment for bronchial asthma and vertebrobasilar insufficiency.
